Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need 3 or 4 sensors?
More sensors means a wider coverage across the rear of the car. The sensors should ideally be installed with a gap of between 30cm and 40cm between each sensor with the outer sensors between 15 to 20cm from the corners. Generally the 3 sensor kits are suitable for small to medium cars (eg. Honda Civic) as long as they don't have a tow bar, the 4 sensor kits are ideal for larger cars and all cars with a tow bar.
Can the Sensors be painted to match my bumper?
Yes, the sensors can be spray painted to match. Only use 2 fine coats of spray paint, do not use brush on paint or touch up brushes as this is too thick. Avoid using metallic paint on the centers of the sensors.
I have a tow bar, is this a problem?
If you have a tow bar you should only fit a 4 sensor kit as the tow bar would interfere with the middle sensor on a 3 sensor kit.
I have a rear mounted spare wheel on my 4x4, will this affect the sensors?
Very rarely do rear mounted spare wheels cause a problem. Check that the wheel does not come within the 70 degree vertical detection range of where the sensors would be positioned.
Why is a "bulb failure warning" light is coming on since fitting the kit?
For vehicles with a bulb failure detection circuit you may need to connect the feed from the reversing light circuit to the parking sensors using a relay.
Why does it beep very quietly every 30 seconds, even when I'm not reversing?
This is caused by a bulb failure detection circuit on the car, you will need to connect the feed from the reversing light circuit to the parking sensors using a relay.
How long are the cables?
The cable from the main unit to the dashboard unit is 6 metres, and the cable to each sensor is 2.5 metres long.
